SENIOR FALL PREVENTION THERAPY
Don’t let injuries resulting from a fall keep you or a loved one from enjoying life. Injuries sustained in a fall can range from trivial bruises to life-threatening trauma. A variety of risk factors, including impaired mobility and balance, age related decrease in strength and endurance, household mobility hazards, unsafe footwear or walking aids, medication interactions, and visual impairments can literally bring you to your knees. Now is the time to take action — prevent falls before they happen! Orthopedic & Sports Physical Therapy’s Fall Prevention Therapy can help you or a loved one avoid a long, painful rehabilitation process or even surgery resulting from a fall.
During the initial appointment, a Doctor of Physical Therapy evaluates the patient's strength, flexibility and range of motion. Neurological and vestibular screenings are performed and evidence-based balance tests are used to obtain objective measures of the patient's personal fall risk. Using the results, the Physical Therapist develops an individual plan of care with the goals of:
· Improving balance
· Increasing strength and endurance
· Providing an aftercare plan of simple in-home exercises
During subsequent visits, the Physical Therapist assesses the patient’s progress and makes adjustments to the plan of care. Additionally, the patient’s movement capabilities are videotaped for a Gait Analysis Assessment. These results may be shared with the patient’s primary care physician or geriatrician.
Following the completion of therapy, the patient may choose to continue the aftercare plan at home or in our therapeutic gymnasium under the watchful eye of our Physical Therapists. OSPTA is an in-network provider for Medicare, Tricare and most commercial health insurance plans.
